AWAK Seminar: “Criminal Proceedings II – From the First Instance to Release from Custody: Practical Examples and Court Decisions”


On May 7th and 8th, 2026, the AWAK seminar “Criminal Proceedings II – From the First Instance to Release from Custody: Practical Examples and Court Decisions” will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott in Linz. Together with seasoned practitioners, René Haumer and Bernd Wiesinger will convey practice‑oriented expertise on the full scope of appeal proceedings against criminal judgments and provide an overview of the complaint mechanisms available in criminal investigation procedures. The seminar will focus on the grounds for nullity under section 281(1) of the Austrian Code of Criminal Procedure, which will be presented in a didactic and practice-oriented manner, taking into account the latest rulings of the Supreme Court. In addition, the procedures for handling nullity appeals and appeals before the Supreme Court of Justice as well as appeal proceedings before the Higher Regional Court and the Regional Court will be explained. Furthermore, the various aspects of the protection of fundamental rights in criminal proceedings (fundamental rights complaint, renewal application) will be presented.
