Review: Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025
On October 15th, in cooperation with the Schule des Ungehorsams (“School of Disobedience”), the international cartoon award “Kaktus” was presented for the second time. Over 1,200 solutions to international, local, or personal issues were submitted by nearly 500 artists from around the world on the theme “The Solution.”
“The theme ‘The Solution’ addresses a juridical – and at the same time humoristic – core competence. Both assess conflicts from an independent distance – and resolve them in their own way: The law resolves them with judgment, the caricature dissolves them into laughter through humor.”

During the ceremony, the jury honored the following artists:
- “Cut Here” by Engin Selçuk (Türkiye)
- “We Can” by Oğuz Demir (Türkiye)
- “Electric Chair” by Michi Brezel (Germany)
Law & caricature: lawyer’s choice
“Caricature and law stand in a tension-filled relationship: Caricatures explore the freedom of expression and of art – up to the limits set by law. They challenge the law and at the same time need its protection in order to be able to fully unfold their – and our – freedom.”

For this reason, in addition to the three awards, a Lawyer’s Choice was presented this year. It went to the third-place winner, Michi Brezel.
The exhibition can be viewed at the Schlossmuseum until March 1st. In addition, discussion panels on various cartoon-related themes are planned for 2026.
