At this year’s plenary meeting on October 16th, 2025, Daniela Huemer became the first woman in the nearly 175-year history of the Upper Austrian Bar Association to be elected to the Presidium of the Upper Austrian Bar Association. She will henceforth hold the responsible position of Vice President of the Upper Austrian Bar Association.

“I am delighted by the trust my colleagues have placed in me by electing me Vice President, and I am very grateful for it. This gives me the opportunity to contribute to the demanding tasks ahead and to actively help shape the legal profession. It is especially important to me to further promote the professional development and visibility of women in our field. Our profession is diverse, valuable, and meaningful – for women as well as for men. Genuine diversity is not just a buzzword for me, but an essential foundation for sustainable success.”

Alongside this significant step for professional representation in Upper Austria, additional key positions were newly appointed: René Haumer will henceforth serve as President of the Disciplinary Council.

The legal profession in Upper Austria is showing a clear trend toward gender diversity: Currently, the proportion of women among Associates exceeds 50 percent. This positive development highlights that more and more women are entering the legal profession and successfully establishing themselves in a demanding field.

A look back at history impressively underscores this change. Since the registration of the first female lawyer in Upper Austria in 1946, the number of female professionals has steadily increased. There are currently 146 female lawyers licensed in Upper Austria – a record number that reflects the growing representation of women in the Upper Austrian Bar Association.
