Last Thursday, the inaugural event of the association “young – interdisciplinary association for youth law and youth welfare” took place at the Johannes Kepler University Linz on the subject of “juvenile delinquency – what to do?”. Around 150 guests from the social, judiciary and academic sector as well as many lawyers and politicians listened to the exciting lectures and engaged in discussions with the moderator and public prosecutor Mag. Philip Christl.
In a nutshell: Contrary to the broad media coverage, the number of convictions has declined by a third in a ten-year comparison and there is no evidence that acts of violence have become more brutal. In contrast, the proportion of foreign juvenile offenders in robbery and addictive offenses has grown higher than that of domestic juveniles. Moreover, during the lectures the importance of inclusion instead of exclusion was continuously emphasized.
