Environmental Law Days 2022

On September 21st and 22nd, 2022, the 26th Austrian Environmental Law Days took place at the JKU Linz on the topic of “Law of Sustainable Resource Use“, this year for the first time as a “Green Event”. The event was organized by the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV) together with the Institute of Environmental Law and with the support of the Association for the Promotion of the Institute of Environmental Law.

The overall topic was the sustainable use of resources, associated legal issues as well as economic and socio-ecological aspects.

Over two days, the participants were informed about new developments in the field of environmental law and European law, private law, public law, water law and waste management law. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Wolfang Wessely and Wilhelm Bergthaler, who explained the latest judicature with regard to industrial plants (including IPPC law) and EIA law in his lecture, spoke about new developments in public law.

Both workshops offered intensive discussions: The first one on the topic of sustainable use of resources in supply chains, led by Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Erika Wagner, and the second workshop on the energy transition and security of supply, led by Wilhelm Bergthaler.

Young scientists also made valuable contributions on the topic of sustainable resource use from the perspective of the younger generation and discussed possible ways to achieve resource equity, moderated by Wilhelm Bergthaler.
