“Bürgeranwalt”: complicated photovoltaic subsidy

The ORF program “Bürgeranwalt” recently discussed the case of pensioner Evelyne D. from Lower Austria. She was denied funding for her photovoltaic system because an incorrect metering point number was provided during the application process.

Expert assessment by Johannes Hartlieb

In the broadcast, Johannes Hartlieb explained the complex framework conditions for PV subsidies:

  • PV systems are generally subsidized – but only if all formal requirements are strictly met.
  • The funding requirements are extremely strict, particularly with regard to the completeness and correctness of the documents to be submitted.
  • Before applying, a contract with the grid operator for the use of the public power grid must be concluded.
  • The application must be submitted before the system is put into operation – having a clear timeline is essential.
  • Errors in the application are nearly impossible to correct – posing a significant liability trap for applicants.
Johannes Hartlieb

The program showed that many applicants fail due to formal hurdles and are not given the opportunity to make corrections. Interested parties are therefore advised to plan carefully and, if in doubt, seek professional support when submitting their application.
