Austrian Environmental Law Days 2021

On September 22nd and 23rd, 2021, the Austrian Environmental Law Days on the topic of “Climate Protection in Law” took place at the JKU Linz. These were organized by the Institute of Environmental Law together with the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV) and with the support of the Association for the Promotion of the Institute of Environmental Law.

The topic was climate protection and the related legal issues.

During two days, the participants were brought up to date in the field of environmental law and informed about new developments in European law, public law, civil law, water law and waste management law. Furthermore, experts from the scientific community took stock of the emission development and provided an outlook on the expected temperature increases and the resulting effects on all important components of the climate system. In line with the hot topic of CO2 pricing, various models of CO2 pricing were presented to the participants and current developments in the context of the European Green Deal were explained.

Young scientists also made valuable contributions and discussed the topic of climate protection from the perspective of the younger generation, moderated by Wilhelm Bergthaler. Associate Julius Ecker gave a presentation together with Daniela Ecker, LL.B., JKU Linz, on the topic of “Climate change as a disaster risk driver” and explained the legal consequences of natural disasters.

All in all, two days full of exciting discussions and new input are behind us.
